As part of the Budget, the popular Smallbiz website www.smallbiz.nsw.gov.au, which has had over 500,000 unique visitors since its launch in September 2009, will be upgraded to boost online services which provide business planning advice, financial, legal and marketing help.
The Smallbiz portal has proved to be a great success with the small business community and is a useful resource for anyone wanting to start, run or grow their own business.
A key upgrade will be the development of an online Innovation Assessment Tool that will identify and assess new ideas and help successfully bring them to market. This will sharpen innovators’ insight to decide whether or not to move their idea ahead to commercialisation.
The Small Business Tool Kit, which provides free online checklists, quizzes, audio-visual case studies and planning tools, will be enhanced with new modules focusing on the ‘Run’ and ‘Grow’ stages of a business. The Tool Kit itself will undergo an overhaul with a new user interface to assist user navigation and accessibility.
Other small business programs to be funded include:
•$2.7 million on Business Advisory Services, so they can continue to provide free business guidance at 14 strategic locations across NSW.
•$2.31 on mentoring and networking services, including women in business, young entrepreneurs, the Innovation Advisory Service, Aboriginal business development, as well as business clusters and networks.
This is in addition to funding for initiatives such as Small Business September, MicroBiz Week, NSW Manufacturing Week plus regular workshops and seminars across NSW to assist small business.
Payroll tax rate cut

The payroll tax threshold will also increase to $658,000 from 1 July, representing a $300 million reduction in the cost of doing business in NSW.
